Magic Drum is now running samba workshops at Dorchester Arts Centre
every Monday evening from 7.30 - 9pm during term-time.
Participants
will be taught specific rhythms for Brazilian instruments such as
tamborims, surdos, repiqes, caixas and agogos and there will be
opportunities for members of the group to learn how to lead the
band, or bateria, cueing breaks and starting and stopping the music.
We
now have between fifteen and twenty regular members and are always
looking to expand the band so we can play more open-air events during
the summer months. No previous experience is necessary and we provide
all the equipment. It's a great way to have fun playing music in
a large group, whatever your age or musical knowledge!
We
are also currently fund-raising to buy equipment in order to have
a regular performing samba band for Dorchester. If you would like
to get involved in raising funds or organising performances for
the samba band please email
us: magicdrum@toucansurf.com
