working in schools

Magic Drum works extensively in schools around Dorset and further afield, introducing children to the ideas of keeping a pulse, listening and playing together; dynamics, giving and responding to signals and cues, creating rhythms from verbal ideas and devising sound effects to go with live action and performance.

We often contribute workshops to school's Arts Weeks and lessons or events which look at music from other cultures.

Students learn basic rhythms and how they fit together, developing into a fully participating, interacting group of people creating and sharing a musical experience together and resulting in harmony, fellowship and a feeling of well-being and above all fun!

We also work with teachers who wish to establish their own Samba or African drumming groups within schools.

SAMBA DRUMMING AND CARNIVAL WORKSHOP, FEBRUARY 2007:

"Thank you so much for a brilliant afternoon of music and carnival. The children just loved the whole experience."

- Year 1 Teacher, Pembroke Park Primary School, Salisbury, Wilts

"They worked in two schools providing classroom based in-service training in drumming techniques for the teachers and inspiration and guidance for the children.....They developed teachers confidence, particularly those who were not music specialists. The end result...in performance, was terrific.

They left a legacy behind, everyone gained from working with them."

~Sue Davies, arts project co-ordinator.
